Name: Sora
Door: Left

Canon: Kingdom Hearts
Canon Point: After the final cutscene of Birth by Sleep: A Fragmentary Passage. Basically, he was on his way to the Coliseum to regain his strength.

Age: 15
Appearance: This is him.

History: This is his wiki.

Personality:

Sora possess strong emotional intelligence. He has had a high level of it since he was a child - as seen by him offering to help Ven's shattered heart. This means that he is often in tune with the feelings and emotions of his friends and knows what to do to cheer them up. To name a few examples, when Beast is being manipulated by the Organization, Sora knows a pep talk with a strong focus on Belle will snap Beast out of it; when Simba is plagued by self-doubt and haunted by a ghost of Scar, Sora knows that taunting Simba will enrage him to action and help him regain his ability to fight; when Riku expresses doubts about how he will be able to face everyone again, Sora makes him laugh by making a funny face. Sora doesn't have a 'one size fits all' answer to providing emotional support to his friends but rather customizes his approach to suit the person he is speaking with. This is something he understands on a basic, intuitive level and it has served him well when it comes to connecting to the hearts of his many friends.

Another very important but often overlooked aspect of emotional intelligence is a low level of tolerance for emotional manipulation and the ability to see through people attempting it. This is why in Kingdom Hearts II Sora is so callous to the Organization members. He is able to sense their intentions to emotionally manipulate him and he doesn't have sympathy for people who do that. In the same vein, he also cannot stand selfishness or cowardice. This does not mean that Sora is not easy to manipulate in other ways (as described below), but it means that when someone tries to play with his emotions to get him to do something he can usually tell and doesn't have the patience for that sort of thing.

Sora is eternally also optimistic. His optimism means he always tries to look on the bright side of things. Even when things are bad, he tries to find the good within it and focus on that. A prime example of this behavior happens in the very first Kingdom Hearts game during the Neverland section. Sora has just discovered that Kairi lost her heart and is a coma. He also has further confirmation that Riku has sided with the dark and was forced to fight a couple of tough battles. Things are bad. Donald and Goofy even express worry that he will be sad because of that but instead Sora focuses on how awesome it was to fly and how much he can't wait to tell Kairi about it. He is often described as being very bright and upbeat. He works to maintain this and often chooses to only think about the things that are positive. This doesn't always work but during the times when Sora feels overwhelmed by sadness or doubt, he relies on his friends to help see him through.

He is extremely dedicated to his friends. He is loyal to the point of putting their needs and thoughts above all else. He always wants to do right by them even to the point of self-sacrifice. This is seen when he gives up his own heart in order to give Kairi back hers or how he openly puts himself in harm's way to give Hercules time to rest. He doesn't pause to think about jumping into the thick of things when it means protecting his friends.

It is important to note though that he also has a very loose definition of what it means to be his friend. There are people he is extremely close to - Riku, Kairi, Donald, and Goofy - but there are also people he meets and then two seconds later will call them his friend. This is highlighted during the Traverse Town plot of 3D when Sora meets Neku and goes from introducing himself to declaring he'll do whatever he can to help Neku with the Game in the span of a handful of sentences. It is even something Neku notes in an incredulous way and Sora just smiles and insists that he means it. The fact is, he really does mean it. When he decides he likes someone he wants to always be there for them.

Because of his loyalty, he is also quick to forgive people who ask for it. He does this with Neku even though Neku was planning to give him up to 'the guy in the black coat' and, perhaps more notably, he almost instantly forgives Riku for everything that happened in Kingdom Hearts. When someone does something bad but had a good reason for it, or was tricked into it, or shows a true desire to make up for it, Sora is one to never hold the past against that person.

One of Sora's greatest weaknesses is his gullibility. This recently was used to really harm him too. While Sora is keen on things like emotional manipulation, he can easily fall for a more subtle type of manipulation. If someone is clever enough, they could literally get him to do something that will ultimately really harm him in the end.

This is literally the entire plot of 3D and a major plot point in KHII, as Sora is manipulated repeatedly by Xehanort and all of his incarnations to do things that serve his person and actively harm Sora. If someone's machinations are thought out enough, Sora will be utterly and completely oblivious to them and fall for them easily.

While he is resistant to outright emotional manipulation, he is not immune to any kind of manipulation and leading him to believe that what he is doing is for the good of the many will almost always work. Xehanort is also able to use some of his worst personality traits against him. In KHII, the Organization needs him to fight Heartless to release their hearts. They end up telling Sora this and Xehanort explains that knowing that is what they want him to do will make him doubt and when he doubts he rededicates himself to his mission tenfold. That is exactly what happens as Sora promises to keep protecting the worlds by defeating more Heartless, no matter what the Organization is plotting. He also easily falls right into Xehanort's plots in 3D for many of the same reasons.

Sora also displays a strong level of impatience and because of that he can sometimes have a bit of a temper. He gets upset when he feels talked down to, especially when people doubt his ability because of his age. He sometimes lets his emotions get the better of him by expressing frustration or anger when he experiences them. He also has no qualms calling people "stupid" when he thinks they are being stupid - here's looking at you, Riku. This sometimes leads to fights between him and Donald, who has an even hotter temper, with poor Goofy being in the middle of it.

While there is a lot to love about Sora, there is also no way around it. He can be pretty dense. Sora tends not to like to think too hard. He doesn't like a lot of puzzles or convoluted machinations. This makes it seem like he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. He can also sometimes be very oblivious, even to things that others would have caught onto. An example of this is in 3D when he is told ahead of time that the Sleeping Worlds will sometimes have memories of people who aren't there anymore and yet when Sora finds people who are his friends he expects them to know him. It takes a couple times of this happening before he finally remembers that they aren't really there and the memory of them won't know him. He also has no knack for technology like computers and displays very little patience for learning more about any of these things - though there is a certain level of 'wow that's cool!' with computers.

He is also pretty competitive. Despite everything that he has been through and done, Sora is still very much a teenager, he likes to have fun and likes to playfully tease his friends. He thrives on competition and is easily goaded into any kind of competition - the Underworld Coliseum matches are a sign of that. He can also get easily excited about things that others might think of as childish such as meeting Santa or getting to be pirates.

Powers and Abilities:

Sora's personal strength is a strong heart. There are many times where people underestimate this strength and are proven wrong by his force of will. His strong heart gave a safe place for Kairi to hide and provided the only haven where Ven could heal. Now, the term "strong heart" is pretty vague. It could mean someone has a physically healthy heart or that they have a strong will. Sora has both of those things, but in the canon of Kingdom Hearts there is another mystical vaguely described meaning behind that phrase. Basically, this means that Sora's heart is able to form deep connections with others very quickly. His strength comes from those connections, as the people who care about him all lend a bit of their strength to him when he fights. This gives him power that is unknowable at this time, but his connections to basically every major character in the canon are often said to be the "key that connects everything" (oh hey, username drop). How this will all play out is yet to be seen, but for purposes of Duplicity this means that he has a pretty strong will that will be difficult, but not impossible, to break.

He is also a Keyblade wielder. Keyblade wielders have access to all kinds of magical abilities. For one, when at full strength, Sora can literally cast magic. He has access to all of the basic Final Fantasy type spells (ie, ice, fire, wind, cure, gravity, demi, etc.) and then as those spells get more powerful they follow the same -ra, -aga, suffixes as Final Fantasy (fire upgrades to fira which upgrades to firaga). The Keyblade also allows him to use all sorts of defensive and offensive magic as well including special combos and buffs to his battle which make him stronger or give him area of effect spells.

However, an important thing to keep in mind is that most of Sora's abilities were actually stripped from him. Above is just an example of the abilities he has had in the past and some he has the potential to re-learn, but recent events mean that Sora lost mostly all of the abilities he had learned over the course of his adventures. The reason that Yen Sid had sent him to the Coliseum at the end of A Fragmentary Passage in the first place was so that he could regain some of the strength he had lost.

This means when Sora is first brought to the city, he will not have access to most of the abilities he had before. The Keyblade will still be a mystic weapon though that disappears and reappears as he calls it and if anyone tries to hold it will leave them and go back to him.

The Keyblade also has a lot of other uses that are being uncovered in each game. A lot of these Sora is completely unaware of though. For example, in Birth by Sleep the Keyblade uses turn their Keyblade into personalized vehicles they use to travel between worlds. There is no hint that Sora knows this is possible. However, he may be able to learn it either by having someone tell him or by letting his heart teach him. He has done this before. In Unionx the Keyblade users can open portals to other worlds just by pointing their Keyblades to empty space. Sora was unaware this could happen, but that the end of A Fragmentary Passage he's able to do it by just closing his eyes and pointing it while letting his heart be his "guiding key."

Another ability that the Keyblade has is to unlock pretty much any type of lock and this could be considered 'game breaking' of course because they could enable him to escape the city. The portal will not work and the unlocking ability will stop working for any game related reasons. For example, if there is an event that requires him to be locked in a room he will be unable to leave by using the Keyblade.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE: Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming out early next year and Sora may end up canon-updated at that time. If he is, this will likely change his abilities. If that happens, it will be discussed at that time.

Inventory:

- Sora will have access to his Keyblade. The basic form of his Keyblade is the Kingdom Key.
- He will have the good luck charm that Kairi made for him. When he puts this on his Keyblade, it becomes the Oathkeeper.
- He will also have the Oblivion keychain. When he puts this on his Keyblade, it becomes the Oblivion.
