I think the way we phrased it, we left the door open for a "just close friends" sort of bond. He seems to be reading it that way, anyway.

We're gonna have to sit him down and smack him in the face with how we feel about him, I think.

I'm pretty sure if I'd done that he'd have been convinced we were betraying you! If I'm gonna kiss him you have to be there to kiss him right after!

Maybe a little talking first, though. Just to make sure we're all on the same page and this is just us convincing him.

you think maybe he might not be interested?

[Why hadn't he even considered that? He wonders, not for the first time, that maybe he's become too ruined by this world. He shouldn't have just assumed Riku would be okay with his desires. That wasn't fair to his friend, not when this city had forced him to learn too much too quickly.

Maybe they should be protecting Riku instead?

He isn't even sure how to get that across to Kairi in text so he just sets his phone down for a second and buries his face in his pillow as he waits for his phone to buzz with her reply.]

I'm not sure he realizes it's an option. No one ever suggested to us that more than two people could be together. That's why I'm afraid he'll think of himself as coming between us.

We have to make him see that it's possible first.

[And she's not sure how to do that. How do you broach the subject of a polyamorous relationship with somebody who doesn't even know that polyamory is a thing?]

Not really, no. To be honest, it feels like it just... came to me, one day, while I was trying to think of how I'd choose between you.

You know, since that seemed to be what everyone expected would happen.

So I don't know how to suggest it to him except to just say "Hey, do you think somebody could be in love with two people at the same time?" And I don't know how he'd react to that.

the thought that we'd have to pick gives me a stomach ache.

Then imagine how he feels right now, thinking we picked each other.

... I don't know how, but we've got to get through to him.

I think... we need to focus on getting him to understand that it's something that's possible first.

Otherwise he'll just look at us like we're crazy.

Do you know anybody else with a relationship like we want with him?

and i get the feeling if i look, i'll find some creepy stuff this city is doing instead of nice happy stuff.

Can't we just tell him what's in our hearts?

Ugh, you're probably right. This city is going to drive me crazy.

Well, that's worked out for us so far. Maybe if we just sit him down and talk it out, the three of us, we can make it work.

Alright. Well, he lives with me, so... that makes it easier.

When you say it like that you make it sound like you're worried he'll go off and hide from us. He only did that once.

Only if he leaves the city, and... well, that'll be a mixed blessing more than anything else.

what do you think happens to the people who disappear?

i want to think they go back home.

That's what I want to believe, too.

I mean, they did send us back to go through the War, right?

Yeah! That's a good point!

If we went home, there's no reason they wouldn't either.

But that means, one of us could disappear and leave the other behind. If that were to happen...

Then one of us would be in precisely the same position we were after the War.

Or we'd be in the same one we were before Riku arrived.
